I currently reside in Brooklyn, New York. I am 25 years old. I go to school and have a studio in Manhattan. I am working on an MFA from Hunter College. My website is www.davidfinegan.com.

My work is very spatial. It is anchored in a kind of storytelling that relates mostly to process and how something evolves. I tend to think that meaning is revealed through the process of making something and I want to listen to that process and not try to have an idea. I'm really more interested in listening than thinking. I just want to play around until the right gesture or sound emerges. Everything ends up a little figurative, like you see a friend or a relative when the work begins to take a shape and then you want to ride that impulse and let the work develop some history, connect with a lineage. For me, personification is instinctual, a natural way to identify and live with my surroundings. I like to think about having conversations with innate objects, and what objects would I want to listen to, or be friends with. I think if you can do that then you can call any place home.

I like to work from the afternoon into the night. In the studio I have been listening to Cappella Romana, Earth, Gravediggaz.

Not very well, but when I do, begrudgingly.

One time in my old studio, a friend of mine walked by and peeked his head into my studio and asked if I was calling the mothership? I didn't have an answer, but I liked the question. I just want to start everything with that attitude, that this 'thing' will communicate across worlds and is a ticket home.

I use a lot of different stuff. Power tools are probably the most important though.

Well, I don't know when this is going to be on-line, but I am writing this on 1/21/10. The Indianapolis Colts are playing in the AFC Championship game on Sunday. I'm pretty excited right now about how well the Colts are playing, and I hope they keep it up!

Ha! Well I'm assuming you gave me $1,000,000 cash, because a check would be infinitely less interesting. So, in that case, I'd walk into the apartment and throw the briefcase on the floor and try to break it so all the money spills out everywhere. Then I'd throw a bunch of money on my bed and roll around in it, let the cats play in it. Then I'd go buy a video camera and record myself throwing wads of cash at the camera with my shirt off. I would order cable and get all the pay channels. Then I'd go buy all the seasons of Seinfeld and sit around in my underpants for a week and watch them and eat nothing but Pizza Hut large stuffed-crust pizzas delivered to me by strangers who I would find and hire by posting an ad on Craigs List that says "I WILL PAY YOU BIG $ TO GO GET ME PIZZA!!!" ... Salary to commensurate with experience. I would pay someone to do my laundry. I would buy a Wii and a shitload of games. I would take whatever money was still left to the dollar store and try to clean it out.

Every day is a day off.
